Original oil on masonite painting of Fleet Week with sailors flirting with young women on the dock by the American artist, Sarah Pace Carothers Rhode. Signed lower right. Circa 1945. Condition is very good. Newly framed in a contemporary gold gallery frame. Overall framed measurements are 25.75 by 21.75 inches. Provenance: A Brooklyn, New York collector. Sarah Pace Carothers (Rhode), 1910 - 1999, American. Sarah Pace Carothers was a Painter, Etcher and Teacher who was born in Baltimore in 1910 and lived around the City of Baltimore for most of her life, living in Catonsville Maryland from 1959 until her death. She studied at the Maryland Art Institute and the Art Students League and was a member of the National League of American Pen Women. Sarah Carothers exhibited at the Baltimore Museum of Art numerous times in the 1940s and 1950s and won prizes at exhibitionsthere in 1941 and 1946. She exhibited frequently in the Washington, DC area at the Phillips Memorial Gallery and the Corcoran. She showed at the Whyte Gallery, Mint Museum, Laguna Beach Artist Association, National Academy of Design, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Baltimore Museum of Art and the Walters Art Gallery. She was married to Mr. W. Allen Rhode of Catonsville, MD. Sarah Carothers is listed in Who Was Who in American Art and Davenport's Art Price Guides.
