Antique oil on panel painting of the Lombard school depicting Pentecost.
This lively 18th-century painting depicts in a very scenic way the Gospel episode of Pentecost, or the Descent of the Holy Spirit that occurred 50 days after Christ's resurrection.
The Virgin is placed in the center of the scene and is surrounded by the Apostles who assume attitudes and expressions of amazement at seeing the flames descending on them.
The dove representing the Holy Spirit is also placed in the center of the architecture.
The composition of the scene is particularly pleasing both because of the remarkable description of the characters and the splendid colors typical of the period.
Condition: Good Condition.
Measurements: 29x34cm.
Provenance: early 18th-century Lombardy.
