Catherine Holmburg
Catherine Holmburg is a native of Wisconsin. The combination of her vision and technique results in a richness and depth of surface, suggesting a contemporary version of Jan Vermeer's, the great Dutch master. "Artists such as Vermeer, Avery and O'Keefe are inspirations to me," Holmburg notes. "I admire the glazed quality of Vermeer's paintings, the simplicity and strong compositions of Avery's work and the sensuality O'Keefe achieves with oil paint." Holmburg's themes include landscape and still life with mood. The technique Holmburg uses ranges from a delicate transparent layering of oil colors to thick impasto strokes. She tends to paint large scale works on paper. Holmburg's studies and travel have inspired her to paint images that range from contemporary still life painting based on 17th-century European masters to landscape paintings of the National Parks she has lived in and visited that are painted in a style similar to Joseph Mallord William Turner. Holmburg has a BFA from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and an MFA from the Claremont Graduate School.

- "Storm Over Tuscany" desert landscape oil signed peace calm adventure travel skyLocated in Milwaukee, WIA lovely landscape oil painting on a wooden board. This is a small but highly detailed piece. It is most certainly in the category of "photos do not do this work justice". The rolling hills lead you into the rainy clouds and it tricks the brain into thinking you can smell the wet fields. It is most wonderful to see this work in person. It brings the sense of falling through a portal or peeking through one into a different part of the world. Signed and dated by the artist on the lower right. Artwork Size: 7 x 12" Frame Size: 14 1/2" x 17 1/2" Artist Bio: DOUGLAS B. - Under The Sea Series Nº4. Úbeda. Oil Fantasy underwater Landscape.Located in Segovia, ESUnder the sea Series. Nº 4. Fantasy underwater landscape. Oil on paper, (H) 50 x (W) 40 x (D) 0,1 cm. Author: Úbeda. The sheets that make up this project evoke a dreamlike world of seabeds. The painter submerges landscapes, forests, materials and terrestrial objects under the cold and silent ocean currents. A feeling of weightlessness dominates the viewer, while the moon floats between anemones, sea urchins and posidonia forests. The blue-green darkness is broken up with nuclei and horizons of light, contrasting with the ambiguous and mysterious atmosphere of the compositions. TECHNIQUE The work has been carried out with an innovative technique, where the fluidized oil is transformed into an undulating sea, to create impossible shapes on paper, which are later outlined by the airbrush, the palette knife and the brush. A totally personal bet of the author, who has done an exercise in free painting, with an explosion of contrasts between the real world and abstraction. ABOUT THE ARTIST Ángel Luis Úbeda...Category
