Christina Juran
Magnolia Landscape I

About the Item

Christina Juran (b. 1968) grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, in a close-knit family. Her paintings reflect her love of color and her fascination with form. Inspired by her surroundings, her paintings reflect the land, water, nature, spaces, people, found objects, and rhythms of her life. Some of her paintings are direct snapshots of her experiences, others are more ‘abstract’ and are born from the actual ‘real’ forms she sees when she sketches. A particularly favorite subject of Juran's over time has been the magnolia flower, whose renditions reflect this concept. Christina Juran studied art at Kibbutz Kfar Hanassi in 1988 (Israel) and completed her BA with honors in Studio Art in 1991 at Carleton College (MN). In 1993, Christina headed to New Mexico where she began exhibiting her work professionally until returning to New Orleans in 1998. In 2005, coinciding with Hurricane Katrina, Christina moved to northern California to join Herman and maintained her studio in an old converted chicken house in Two Rock. Recently, the two returned “home sweet home” to New Orleans and reside in the bustling growing St. Claude Arts District where they have opened an art center/gallery/and studios.
