About the Item
Freeman Baldridge's impressionistic depiction of the impact of a wave on land, with a swirl of colorful flowers and bird overhead. Oil on canvasboard measures 15 15/16 x 12; frame dimensions measure 22 1/8 x 18 x 1 1/2. Artist's initials and date, lower left. The painting is housed in a gold-tone wave frame with white linen liner. Weight is 6 pounds.
Freeman Baldridge's love of painting was inspired by a work by French landscape painter Jean-Charles Cazin, and Baldridge began to copy works by Monet and Renoir. At Baldridge's show at Tenison House Gallery, the curator described his works as impressionism with touches or surrealism. Baldridge called them romantic unrealism ( courtesy of Dallas Life Magazine of The Dallas Morning News).
