About the Item

Honoré BARMONT Paris, 1810 – Paris, 1851 Oil on canvas 36 x 25 cm (48 x 38 cm with the frame) Signed and dated lower right “Honoré Barmont / 1842” Beautiful 19th century frame in gilded wood. Excellent condition Honoré Barmont was the son of painter Jean Honoré Marmont de Barmont also a painter. He studied like him with Jean Victor Bertin. Honoré Barmont was a romantic painter of landscapes and city views and he represented picturesque sites in France and Europe (in France in Paris, Montmartre, Rouen and the castles of Normandy, abroad in Spain and Germany). He was active in the years 1830 to 1850. By his subjects as well as his style, Honoré Barmont is close to the French and European painters of picturesque views of the romantioc period (Eugène Cicéri, Karl-Joseph Kuwasseg, Giuseppe Canella and the Belgian François Bossuet). He exhibited regularly at the Salon in Pars between 1839 and 1851. Our painting may be replica of the painting "Souvenir d'Allemagne" exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1841. The style is caracterictic, synthetic, with a fine drawing and bright colors. What makes the charm of his paintings is also his work on the light which reminds the art of Victor Bertin, his master, and which literally draws the forms, the characters and the architectures.
