Jane Bloodgood-Abrams
Jane Bloodgood-Abrams is largely celebrated for her awe-inspiring landscapes influenced by Hudson River School painters, Frederic Church and Thomas Cole. Bloodgood-Abrams has become one of the area’s most celebrated artists, gracing viewers with her compositions of sky, river and earth. Being less concerned with documenting specific scenes, Bloodgood-Abrams is focused on capturing nature’s essence, “the deeply profound moments, where there is a connection to a vital energy.” Her process begins with being in nature, where she allows the emotional energy of the landscape to filter through her psyche. The memory is then translated onto canvas after being worked over some time with layers of paint that is applied, wiped away and reworked. The result is a radiantly dramatic remembrance of Bloodgood-Abram’s encounter with “something beyond everyday life." The artist’s final hope is for these images to evoke remembrances within the viewer's relationship with nature. She was born in Queens, New York. She received her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, in 1985. Three years later, she earned a Master’s of Fine Arts at the State University of New York in New Paltz. Now she paints in the Hudson River Valley and the Berkshires.

- Domain (Contemporary Hudson Valley Landscape Oil Painting in Wood Frame)By Leigh PalmerLocated in Hudson, NYacrylic on paper mounted on board 35 x 35 inches framed Romantic (yet modern) Hudson River oil landscape painting of rolling, hilly farmland with trees in the foreground with a luminous blue sky in the background. Palmer's realistic technique captures the many textures of the natural world, from meticulously rendered trees to the clouds that hover gently overhead. The painting floats in a black-painted wood frame with a wire across the back for instant, professional-quality hanging. About the artist: In 1987, Leigh Palmer moved with his family from suburban Duxbury, Massachusetts, to Tivoli, New York, a quiet town on the Hudson River, north of New York City. His subject matter shifted to the sprawling hills and countryside of the Hudson Valley. “I wanted to respond to the new landscape I was seeing, to catch something of the feeling I had just before dark,” says Palmer. “I took a lot of photographs, but I was happier with the paintings I created from memory.” Leigh Palmer has been represented by Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, NY for over 25 years. - Autumn Idle, Catskills, New York, October 23, 1885By Jervis McEnteeLocated in Missouri, MOAutumn Idle, Catskills, New York, October 23, 1885 By. Jervis McEntee (American, 1828-1891) Unframed: 11.5" x 16" Framed: 20.5" x 25" Jervis McEntee was a landscape painter, born in 1828 in the Hudson River Valley in Rondout, New York. It was said that 'Nostalgia may well have been McEntee's middle name", and that he, always attempting to stir emotions in his viewers, often attached poetry to his paintings when exhibiting them. At a time when the Civil War and its after effects caused great disruption in America, McEntee's work may have provided a visual escape for the more educated. His works are rich with the colors of autumn and winter, and he, who often painted in the Catskill Mountains, preferred smaller views rather than panoramas. Usually detailed and simple, his works often reflect a sense of loneliness. As a youngster, McEntee would play in his parents attic, pretending it was an art studio. An unsuccessful attempt at business led McEntee back into the art profession where he studied in New York City under the influence of Frederic E. Church, master of the Hudson River Style, and soon had a showing of his own in the famous Tenth Street Studio Building by 1855. In about 1858, Mr. and Mrs. McEntee hired English architect Calvert Vaux to build a studio next to McEntee's fathers house in Rondout. There Jervis would spend most of his summers, painting the nearby Catskill Mountains, and returning to the city during the winter. At the outbreak of the Civil War, McEntee enlisted in the Union...Category
