Jennifer Hornyak
Three Trees - small, green, orange, blue, purple landscape oil painting

2019

About the Item

Gestural shapes in olive and orange are framed by passages of rich sienna and indigo in this emotive landscape by Jennifer Hornyak. Framed dimensions are 9.5 x 13.5 inches. Hornyak is known for her still life and figurative paintings rendered in vivid colors with rich textured surfaces -- surfaces that are created over time through many layered glazes. The bold colors and flattened picture plane in this work reveals the influence of the modern French Fauvist masters such as Henri Matisse and Andre Derain. Jennifer Hornyak was born in England where she studied at the Grimsby School of Art before coming to Canada in 1961. In Canada, she continued her studies at McGill University, the Musee des beaux-arts de Montreal and the Centre Saidye Bronfman. Hornyak was invited to participate in the World Exhibition in Paris in 1987 along with Modigliani, Picasso and van Dongen. Her work has been exhibited throughout Europe and North America. Her portrait paintings were recently featured in a public exhibition in Montreal at the McClure Gallery for the Visual Arts. Hornyak’s work is represented in many private and corporate collections including Bombardier Transport, Burroughs Welcome, McCarthy Tétrault, Power Corporation and Hyatt Regency Hotel.
