John Phillip Osborne
The Pond and Lilies, original 28x40 Hudson River School impressionist landscape

About the Item

The water glistens on a sunwashed paradise. Legendary artist John Phillip Osborne has used prismatic light and tonal progression coupled with impressionist brush strokes to achieve this enchanting, 28x40 original oil painting of a pond with lilies. True to his Barbizon roots, Osborne placed critical importance to the details of the landscape as a subject matter, while capturing the mood of the subject matter true to the Hudson River School of artists. John Phillip Osborne was the leading instructor of the highly regarded Ridgewood Art Institute of New Jersey for more than thirty four years. Osborne taught generations of his students to go beyond the obvious in portraying their subject matter in a composition striving to capture the genuine overall feeling of the moment. He had graduated with honors from Pratt Institute of NYC and then continued his studies at the famed Art Students League of NYC. Original Osborne oil paintings have been exhibited in United States Embassies in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America as well as in coveted venues across the United States. A recipient of countless awards, Osborne's highest personal honor was the "Artist in Special Tribute" and the "Gold Medal of Honor" presented to him by the Hudson Valley Art Association.

  • Home Port, original 16x16 impressionist marine landscape
    Located in Spring Lake, NJ
The sundrenched sky is solid and dense while the action and drama seem to have subsided for the day. You feel satiated but maybe you'll clean up and come back out for an afternoon cocktail as you tie the sheets to the cleats and settle into home port. It was a day well spent so far and tomorrow is another day! Artist Joseph Sundwall layers the imagery at the marina as though a realistic depiction but stays true to impressionist style thereby ensuring that the motion remains even when at port. Sundwall has framed his original marine landscape in a custom stained wood traditional frame; the overall feeling of this oil painting is transitional as the classic marina interfaces with some abstracted elements. Noted artist Joseph Sundwall, a devotee of the teachings of Yale's Josef Albers' principals of minimalism and elegance in a work of art combined with the importance of negative space, is known for his sensitivity in the works he produces, often using intermittent abstractions to fill the voids. An accomplished portrait artist, Sundwall studied with renowned artist Everett...
