Marie Marguerite Reol
Landscape oil Painting, Garden landscape, mountain landscape, French art

1930's

About the Item

Vintage landscape oil painting on canvas by French artist Marie Marguerite Reol (1880-1963) Garden landscape in the fore with a backdrop of mountains, most likely to be the Pyrenees. The canvas is textured to the touch with some elements, such as the flowers, slightly raised by the use of impasto enforced oils. Realistic green hues and the lilac mountain range nicely frame this composition so that the eye lingers on the lure of the quiet garden setting and the fresh air of the nearly touchable mountains. This Neo-Impressionist landscape by the French artist Achille Laugé captures an orchard in late spring in his celebrated, highly modern style. The work displays a thick impasto thanks to the artist's distinctive technique of applying his paint in quick dabs, a characteristic of his later works. One of the foremost painters of the Post-Impressionist period, Laugé’s works are beloved for his sensitivity to light, shade and tone, and his mastery of medium is clearly on display in Almond Trees...
