About the Item
A stunning late 19th/early 20th century oil painting by the highly collected English School painter Sidney Yates Johnson. This excellent example of the artist's oeuvre depicts a figure on his homeward way, riding his horse and cart through an autumnal wood. The painting has been well presented in period gilt frame and slip with the title and artist name inscribed. Signed to the lower left 'S. Y. Johnson'. On canvas on stretchers.

Sidney Yates Johnson
Johnson was a prolific painter of landscapes from Circa 1890 to 1926. Many of his works are classic Victorian English landscapes. His early work is similar to that of Henry H parker and the later work of John Horrace Hooper.
