Song Walking, Original Contemporary Blue and White Mixed Media Diptych Painting

2021

About the Item

Song Walking, Original Contemporary Blue and White Mixed Media Diptych Paintings, 2021 40" x 30" x 2" (HxWxD) each, Watercolor, Acrylic, + Marker on Wood Panel 40" x 60" x 2" (HxWxD) total dimensions, if placed directly next to one another. Each hand-signed by the artist in verso. A contemporary impressionist landscape painting featuring a line of white-barked trees, birch or maybe aspen, against a soft blue background. The silhouette of additional trees are seen in the background, suggesting the depth of this forest scene. A few dark red leaves still cling to some of the trees' branches, as the seasons changed from fall into winter. Artist Commentary: Song Walking is a 40 x 60 diptych, each of the two pieces 30 x 40. It is a mixed media piece primarily a watercolor with acrylic and marker added. It is UV-protected and varnished. The title comes from Mary Chapin Carpenter, describing her meditative walks. I loved the phrase many times. I do the same - taking walks in the woods figuring out paintings in my head. About the Artist: With a B.F.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University and a M.F.A. from Cornell University, Tamara mainly produces Color Field and Abstract Expressionist works. But when Tamara's son left for college and the house became quiet, she began experimenting with watercolors. She was surprised to find that she absolutely loved it. Watercolors are a huge change for Tamara, as she had never painted anything close to realism before, but she is enjoying this new dimension. Tamara and her family live in Massachusetts, a short drive away from Lake Winnipesaukee, the White Mountains, the cape, and Maine. However, her standalone favorite place to paint is the American west. She loves to paint from photos she's taken at the National Parks she's visited. Her favorite part about painting realist works is seeing people's face light up when they recognize the locations in her paintings. The next new adventure for Tamara will be returning to abstract work, but this time around experimenting with small scale and encaustic works.
