About the Item
"Moon Over the Harbor" is an oil painting showing a vast seascape at night. The foreground is cloaked in shadow, appearing as a black mass wrapping around the shore. A duo of treetops point toward the sky, outlining the fertile wooded landscape the viewer stands upon. A grouping of boats float along the water, sleeping in stillness. The cove is illuminated by nothing but the bright round sturgeon moon. Butko has captured the perfect moment, where clouds are reaching toward the moon, wanting to cover it’s light. In just a few moments, the harbor will be concealed in blackness.
Framed dimensions: 31 x 36 inches
Artist Bio:
Viktor Butko was born in 1978 in Moscow, into a family of artists. He often visited the studio of his grandfather, the famous artist Victor Chulovich, and watched the creation of paintings. As you may imagine, this has inspired him to start painting. Viktor’s first steps in art were directed by his grandfather and his parents, artists Nickolay Butko and Marina Chulovich, he then studied at the Moscow Art School, which is known for a high level of training. After completing his training at the art school, Butko painted at the Academic Dacha of Artists, created by the great Russian artist Ilya Repin for students of the Academy of Fine Arts. There he worked under the guidance of famous artists Alexey Gritsay and Tkachev brothers, which had a big impact on his creativity.
Viktor’s first solo show was held in the United States, in 2002 at the McCarthey Gallery, one of the foremost dealers in the United States for Russian Impressionist art. This marked the beginning of a long cooperation with the gallery. Later, in 2016, He took part in an international plein air event, which was organized by American painter Ben Fenske and art dealer Laura Grenning. As a result of this Russian-American Painting Alliance a large exhibition was held in the Grenning Gallery in Sag Harbor. His work is in the Vyshniy Volochek Museum collection, Collection of the IRRA and private collections in Russia, China and the U.S. Butko regularly paints in Sag Harbor and Maine as well as Russia and Italy and is represented by the Grenning Gallery, gWatson Gallery, Williams Fine Art and the McCarthey Gallery. He lives with his wife, Kelly Carmody, in Waltham Massachusetts, where they paint and teach in and around their studio.

- Beach Grass, TwilightBy Marc DalessioLocated in Sag Harbor, NYArtist Bio Marc Dalessio was born in 1972 in Los Angeles, California. Even in his earliest years, it was evident that his passion was art. In 1989 he started at the University of California at Santa Cruz where he focused on both art and biology. During his time in Santa Cruz, Marc experimented with different schools of painting and spent much of his spare time studying the history and culture of the profession. He finished his outstanding academic career, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, in 1992. After university, Marc moved to Florence, Italy, where he spent the next eight years developing his style and refining his technique. Initially, Marc studied under Svetlan Kracsyna at Il Bisonte International School of Graphic Arts, where he earned a master printmaker degree. From there he went on to train as a portraitist at a small traditional painting atelier. Marc has emerged as a true master of his craft. Whether his work depicts an Indian landscape or an Italian businessman, the lines and color in his paintings attempt to reveal the nature of his subjects. In his portraits, he works to find the essence of the model, trying to use the true character of the individual to decide the mood of the painting. His plein air landscapes, which range in subject from exotic locations around the world to his own backyard, attempt to capture both the present and the history of the environment, touching the soul with his own unique view of the scenery. In all his works, his dedication to light and color, and the subtly of his subjects, enraptures even the most casual observer.
