About the Item
Charming portrait of Russian Boyarina by Bell Dibble Taft (American, 1855-1937), 1921. Signed and dated lower left corner and gallery label for Oakland Gallery Exhibit (Oakand Museum) on verso. Condition: Good; professionally cleaned with a few touch-ups on lower right corner area repaired and inpainted. Presented in gilt-toned pie crust wooden frame. Image size: 12.50"H x 10"W. Framed size: 16.50"H x 13.50"W x 2"D.
Born in Indiana on Jan. 24, 1855. Belle Taft moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1875. She was active in the local art scene until her demise in San Francisco on April 22, 1937. Her works include floral still lifes. Exh: San Francisco Art Association, 1917-18; Oakland Art Gallery, 1928.
