About the Item

Charming portrait of Russian Boyarina by Bell Dibble Taft (American, 1855-1937), 1921. Signed and dated lower left corner and gallery label for Oakland Gallery Exhibit (Oakand Museum) on verso. Condition: Good; professionally cleaned with a few touch-ups on lower right corner area repaired and inpainted. Presented in gilt-toned pie crust wooden frame. Image size: 12.50"H x 10"W. Framed size: 16.50"H x 13.50"W x 2"D. Born in Indiana on Jan. 24, 1855. Belle Taft moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1875. She was active in the local art scene until her demise in San Francisco on April 22, 1937. Her works include floral still lifes. Exh: San Francisco Art Association, 1917-18; Oakland Art Gallery, 1928.

    A beautiful watercolor painting of a brown Carmel house with a white picket fence in front by Lillie Esther (Hillman) Heebner, a Watsonville, Monterey Bay area, California watercolor artist. Unsigned, but acquired with a collection of her work. Lillie (Lil) E. Heebner was guided through life by her creativity. Even at 92, she never felt old, and often said so. She met every situation in life—including death—with ingenuity. Although born in Richmond, Lillie lived in Watsonville all her life. Her father, Frederick H. Hillman, grew up on a strawberry ranch in Pajaro, graduated from Watsonville High School in 1916, and served in France during World War I. He later worked for Martinelli's Apple Cider plant and became foreman. Lillie's mother, Esther C.
