About the Item
Sandra Cohen’s “when we arrive in the middle of nowhere” is a 12 x 12 x .25 inch acrylic painting on tempered hardboard, in green, blue, pink, red, orange, and white. Abstracted wild flowers and greenery wave under a blue springtime sky, where a tiny plane is landing. A circular pattern of arrows moving in opposite directions is overlaid in white and intertwines with itself and the fine red lines that grow like stems outward from its unseen center. Inspired by the song “Autopilot” by Queens of the Stone Age. This painting is unframed and the signature is on the back.
Sandra Cohen’s dreamlike painting and mixed media work explores the paradoxical nature she finds everywhere. Cohen layers a constantly shifting ground of memory with snippets of lyrics, invasive ‘earworms’, and the human tendency to create order from chaos. Music is intimately entwined with memory for Cohen, who has been a performing musician and songwriter. She also has a deep interest in science, especially the concepts of modern physics. Using techniques that vary from wet to dry and tight to loose, and processes that may weave between digital and tactile, the act of creating the work also reflects what she hopes emerges: glimpses of a true/false spectrum wavering into being as lustrous, rhythmic, and often darkly humorous hybrids. Cohen is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.

- "Necessary Risk", contemporary, landscape, blue, clouds, mountain, acrylicBy Frantz LexyLocated in Natick, MA“Necessary Risk" is a contemporary landscape painting by Frantz Lexy. Under the blue sky, vast cumulonimbus white clouds tower over a rocky mountain. This 20 x 16 inch painting is rendered in acrylic mediums and is signed on the back of the panel. Through painting, Frantz Lexy explores personal identity, belonging, and humanity’s place in nature and its relationship with technology. Lexy uses personal storytelling as a vehicle to engage contemporary concerns and invites others to find their own narratives through his imagery. Lexy is fascinated with how paradoxical imagery creates tension and compels us to reflect on our immediate reaction. Human figures are recurring motifs in Lexy’s works. He is equally interested in texture and abstraction, and how they play within his landscapes. Lexy’s portfolio is a reflection on the plurality that exists within every individual, and specifically how that relates to people of color. Frantz Lexy is a self-taught artist and experimentation is a driving force behind his vibrant acrylic paintings. His work has been shown in galleries across Massachusetts. He is represented by Fountain Street...Category
