Arthur Meltzer (American, 1893-1989) Green Pepper Oil on canvas, 12 x 22 inches; Framed: 19 x 29 inches Signed at lower left: “Arthur Meltzer” Frame is original and also by Arthur Meltzer Arthur Meltzer was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and studied at the Minneapolis School of Art before enrolling in the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Meltzer achieved fame for his Pennsylvania landscapes of Bucks and Berks Counties. He taught for many years at the Moore College of Art and Design, where he met his wife, the impressionist painter Paulette Van Roekens. He was a member of many art organizations, including the Fellowship of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Philadelphia Graphic Sketch Club, the Philadelphia Art Alliance, and the Society of Mystic Artists in Mystic, Connecticut. Meltzer retired from Moore College in the 1940s and painted in his Huntingdon Valley home until his death at the age of ninety-five.

    Vita Merca Latvian artist born 1951. Her father was a conductor, her mother was fascinated with violin and entered Vita in the music world and later in fine arts.     Floral painting. Flowers in a vase. Mortimer Borne, Printmaker, painter, sculptor, and educator was born in Rypin, Poland in 1902 and emigrated to the US in 1916. He studied at the National Academy of Design, The Art Students League, The Beaux-Arts Institute of Design, and with Charles Webster Hawthorne, founder of the Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown. Painted in a thick impasto style similar in technique to Samuel Rothbort and David Burliuk. Borne himself taught at The New School for Social Research in New York City from 1945-1967. From the 1920s through the 40s he was a prolific producer of New York City cityscapes and genre scenes. In later decades, he adopted a more modernist style apparently influenced by Picasso, producing color drypoints of abstracted figures.
