Mid Century Still Life with Apples and Pitcher Original Oil on Artist's Board
Vibrant still life by C. (Clarence) Leslie Oursler (American, 1913-1987). Classic American impressionist, realism painting, group of apples are displayed on a table, along with a white pitcher, glass cup, tablecloth, books, and a knife. Although this painting appears realistic, upon closer inspection, there are influences of impressionism. In particular, the apples, table top, and wall are all made up of tiny strokes of color that appear to blend together at a distance.
Signed "Oursler" in the lower right corner.
Signed and dated "Oursler Sept/Nov 1955" on verso.
Presented in an off-white, antiqued wood frame.

Board size: 20"H x 24"W
Clarence Leslie Oursler (1913-1987), a self-taught Maryland artist had a passion for painting ships, seascapes, and waterside scenes of the Chesapeake Bay region. Oursler painted over 180 marine works during his career.
C. Leslie Oursler’s artwork appears in the collections of the Baltimore Museum of Art, Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, Academy of Arts (Easton), Calvert Marine Museum, Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, The Mariners’ Museum, the Maryland Historical Society, the Steamship Historical Society of America, and the Steamboat Era Museum, as well as in many privately held collections.
