Zbigniew Kopania
Zbigniew Kopania, painter and cinematographer, was born on December 21, 1949, in Łódź in Poland. Kopania’s style of paintings are characterized by very high realism, some of them deserve to be called hyperrealism. He often uses thick impasto of paint and numerous glazes that contribute to the final effect of the created works. In his paintings, you can almost always see great color saturation, high contrast and meticulously refined details. He obtained a College degree in the cinematography department of the State Higher School of Film, Television and Theater in Łódź from 1969–74. He worked as an operator of feature, documentary and television films in Poland and abroad from 1974–80. He studied painting under the direction of Professor Jerzy Mierzejewski. He had various individual and group exhibitions in London, Amsterdam and Munich and with galleries in the USA including, Polish Social and Cultural Center in London in 1990, Provinciehuis Gallery Haarlem in Holland in 1991, Country Club Gallery, in Odessa in 1997 and Galerie Kunst Centrum Haarlem in 2001. He has permanent exhibitions with several galleries in Poland, including the Blue-S Gallery. He has also done Sarmatian portraits for the film Pan Tadeusz, directed by Andrzej Wajda in 1998. His works are on display in private collections across Europe and the US.

- Apples and Glass, super real, illustionistic, colorful contemporary still lifeBy Douglas NewtonLocated in Brooklyn, NYOil paint on canvas Doug Newton’s hyper-real paintings observe reality, explore translucency, reflections and luminosity, and dazzle the viewer with all the ways light can transform our perceptions. His subject matter concentrates on still lives of food, toys, candy and household objects. In addition to many group shows across the country, Mr. Newton’s show, “HARD CANDY and other confections” represents his fifth solo exhibition. His paintings have been collected in numerous private collections. Mr. Newton resides in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Sonia Coman writes in her essay, Doug Newton’s hard candy: the confection of painting Doug Newton’s paintings are about… painting. The hyperrealist technique of trompe l’oeil or “trick the eye” is knowingly playful. It simultaneously calls attention to the illusion of a different material—for example, translucent candy wrappers—and the reality of the layers of paint, masterfully applied to the canvas. In that, Newton’s paintings pay homage to an esteemed series of trompe l’oeil masters, from Inquisition-era Spanish painter Francisco de Zurbarán to Gilded-Age American painter William Michael Harnett...Category
