About the Item
Eucalyptus with Turtles and Honeycomb, 2010
94 x 33.5 inches, edition of 15
archival digital print, unframed
This contemporary, archival digital print was made by fine art photographer, Lisa Frank, in 2010. The botanical still life collage print from the artist's 'Specimen Panels' series features a whimsical display in various shades of green of Eucalyptus, turtle shells, honeycomb, and blackberries. Frank's panels are carefully created by digitally collaging every object and plant after individually photographing each separately, resulting in striking and intricate patterns. This still life print is available in additional sizes.
Artist's Statement:
I make large scale photographs that depict complex patterns. These patterns are composed from elements of nature and are presented in the form of traditional wallpaper designs. Densely ornamental, my artwork draws upon my own background as a textile designer as well as the interior decoration documents of Britain’s Aesthetic Movement of the late 19th century.
The patterns are constructed from daily snapshots and scanographs composed in my studio. Combinations of motifs are “sewn” together through extreme image layering and masking. Often working with over 100 layers, a photographic grouping is created and then given a “repeat” structure - a textile design term referring to the way a pattern is set up to tile seamlessly in any direction. The ability of these patterns to endlessly tile creates the potential for multiple size works ranging from large individual prints to full room installations.
Choosing to focus on natural elements that are not commonly appreciated or used for decorative purposes, my artwork is connected to the “wildness” in nature even as it is taming it by the creation of formal patterning. Creating a context for connection, it is my hope to draw the viewer into a local world as it hasn’t been seen before: charged with wonder, rich, complex and changeable while being inclusive and accessible.

- Cloud, Contemporary Color Photography on ReflectionsBy Roberta FinebergLocated in New york, NYFor the image “Cloud” the artist Roberta Fineberg’s attention and equilibrium remained anchored on an anthropomorphic cloud during an unusual springtime (the pandemic 2020) in New York. Sheltering in place, with the soul of the City laid bare, birds sang louder than usual outside city dwellers’ windows. Sunlight illuminated the empty streets, formerly bustling. Nature reigned. A contemporary color photograph, Cloud, 2020 by Roberta Fineberg is 18" x 24" (sheet size) an archival pigment print on baryta paper in an edition of 5. Photograph is signed by the artist. Provenance: RF Archive *** Artist Bio: As a photographer and visual artist, Roberta Fineberg (RF) focuses on the themes of serendipity, inventiveness, and development of ideas for her photography, video, installations, works on paper, and painting. Drawn to experimentation, she explores diverse mediums and subjects such as the ephemeral (butterfly series), stolen moments (documentary work), play, timelessness, the enduring, and significance of matter. In July 2022, Roberta Fineberg’s Double Helix was included in a Sotheby’s auction in New York City and exhibited in the preview show Contemporary Discoveries.
