JACQUES VILLON 1875-1963 (Gaston Duchamp) Damville 1875-1963 Paris (French) Title: Le Petit Équilibriste, 1914 Technique: Original Hand Signed and Numbered Etching with full margins on watermarked paper Paper Size: 38.5 x 28.5 cm / 15.1 x 11.2 in Plate Size: 21.5 x 16 cm / 8.5 x 6.2 in Additional Information: This High quality early work by Jacques Villon is hand signed by the artist in pencil "Jacques Villon" at the lower right margin. It is also Hand Inscribed in the lower left margin "epreuve d'artiste" (artist Proof). Furthermore the work is Signed and Dated in the plate in the left middle “Jacques Villon 14” (1914). This Etching was printed in 1914 in a small limited edition of 50 Hand Signed and Numbered Impressions and a few Artist Proofs (our work is one of them). There is an old French Customs stamp in the lower right corner. Provenance: This is a very early work by Villon dated from 1914. It belonged to The Collection of Olga Carre-Burel formally known as the Collection of Louis Carre. This was one of the most important collections of Villon's work in the world if not the most important one. Olga Carre (born Burel) was the wife of the important Paris Gallery owner and Collector Louis Carre. He passed away in 1977 and so his wife, Olga Carre, inherited his collection. Louis Carre was the main dealer of Jacques Villon and exhibited his works regularly in his Gallery in Paris and New York. Most of their collection was bought directly from the artists. Literature: Jacques Villon-Les Estampes,Les Illustrations-Catalogue Raisonne, by Colette de Ginestet and Catherine Pouillon, published by Arts et Metiers Graphiques. Reference: Ginestet et Pouillon E. 287 (fully illustrated in page 183). Condition: Excellent condition, two glue tape remains in the upper reverse edges of the paper.
