About the Item

Banksy, Visit Historic Palestine, 2019 Offset lithograph Official Walled Off Hotel Release 2017-20 (Now Sold Out) 42 x 59 cm (16.53 x 23.22 in) Stamped by the artist's estate and embossed logo in the lower left-hand corner and stamped on the verso side of the print Accompanied by a Gallery supplied Certificate of Authenticity Produced and sold at Banksy's iconic 'Walled Off Hotel' in 2019, the Banksy Palestine poster depicts children using a war-damaged watchtower as an amusement-park ride and includes the slogan “Visit historic Palestine” followed by the tagline “The Israeli army liked it so much they never left!” An important piece representing an iconic time in the legendary street artist's career. Banksy is a pseudonymous England-based graffiti artist, political activist, film director and painter. His satirical street art and subversive epigrams combine dark humour with graffiti done in a distinctive stencilling technique. Such artistic works of political and social commentary have been featured on streets, walls and bridges in cities throughout the world. Banksy's work was made up of the Bristol underground scene, which involved collaborations between artists and musicians. Observers have noted that his style is similar to Blek le Rat, who began to work with stencils in 1981 in Paris, Jef Aerosol, who sprayed his first street stencil in 1982 in Tours (France) and members of the anarcho-punk band Crass, which maintained a graffiti stencil campaign on the London Tube system in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Known for his contempt for the government in labelling graffiti as vandalism, Banksy displays his art on publicly visible surfaces such as walls, even going as far as to build prop pieces.
