About the Item
"Lutece" is an original color lithograph by Adolphe Giraldon. This piece depicts a woman holding a sailing ship among lush vegetation. In the background, Notre Dame rises. Lutece is the French name for the ancient Roman city that stood where Paris now stands. This piece was published in L'Estampe Moderne II, an Art Nouveau subscription publication. Other artists in this publication included Alphonse Mucha and others.

Adolphe Giraldon was born in Marseille. A pupil of François Louis Français and Luc-Olivier Merson, Giraldon moved to live in Glasgow, where he became Professor of Decorative Arts at the Glasgow School of Art. The Beaux Arts in Toulouse has a number of Giraldon views of Venice. As a lithographer, Adolphe Giraldon was a contributor to L'Estampe Moderne.
