John Brower worked in Chicago as a billboard designer for 12 years. He taught art at Alverno College of Milwaukee, Wright Junior College in Chicago, the University of Illinois, and the University of Kentucky. A Pop Artist.
In John Browers' work two important things come forward: the design and the image. In the painting Indian 2 you are denied simply enjoying the background or the realistic figure in the foreground. They both on their own would make an interesting painting but Johns' insistence on putting them together leaves you with a picture scrubbed clean of indecision, so clear that you can hardly help yourself from needing to understand its meaning. John Browers' pictures are modern - no matter how instant they look you can tell they have been thought about and realized with a lot of calculation and intentionality.
He has exhibited regularly in galleries throughout the country over the past 40 years and his work is in numerous collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.
Art After Art 1971. The exhibition featured works by contemporary artists who borrow and rework to their own ends famous paintings or traditional themes from the past. This exhibition consists of twenty-two paintings, drawings, sculptures, and graphics by 20th century artists , including Marcel Duchamp, Rene Magritte, John Clem Clarke, Tom Wesselmann, Roy Lichtenstein, Alain Jacquet, John Chamberlain, John Brower, Larry Rivers, Al Pounders, Joseph Cornell, Jose Luis Cuevas, and Sante Graziani. Enrico Baj, Wynn Chamberlain, Joseph Cornell, Marcel Duchamp, Sante Graziani and Saul Steinberg.
The idea of reusing earlier art is not new to the 20th Century, although it seems to have a special appeal to a number of artists working today. Pop artists scorn the inviolability of High Art and, in disregarding traditional notions of proper subject matter, choose commercial or low art. Some show a particular fondness for masterpieces in reproduction--the mass media or commercial version of art with a capital A. Following the Pop artists came the New Realists, who work from photographs. John Clem Clarke, for example, first used slides of masterpieces, but now restages them with his own models, photographs the restaged event, and spray-paints the images on canvas.

- the Spirit of the Ghetto Screenprint British Pop Art RB Kitaj Judaica SilkscreenBy Ronald Brooks KitajLocated in Surfside, FLR.B. Kitaj (1932-2007) Spirit of the Ghetto Original seven color silkscreen on paper Signature: Hand signed by the artist in pencil lower right Edition: From the small, limited edition of 25, pencil numbered lower right 2/25 Sight Size: 23-1/2" x 17-1/2" Frame Size: 27" x 21.5" In Tate collection, London. Ronald Brooks Kitaj RA 1932 – 2007 was an American artist with Jewish roots who spent much of his life in England. He became a merchant seaman with a Norwegian freighter when he was 17. He studied at the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Vienna and the Cooper Union in New York City. After serving in the United States Army for two years, in France and Germany, he moved to England to study at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art in Oxford (1958–59) under the G.I. Bill, where he developed a love of Cézanne, and then at the Royal College of Art in London (1959–61), alongside David Hockney, Derek Boshier, Peter Phillips, Allen Jones and Patrick Caulfield. Richard Wollheim, the philosopher and David Hockney remained lifelong friends. "Through an earlier pre-occupation with turn-of-the-century intellectual life in Vienna (where he had started his art studies in the early 1950s), as well as an admiration for the Warburg Institute approach to the history of art-in-its-intellectual-context (since after Vienna he had moved to Oxford to study with the art historian Edgar Wind, before going on to the Royal College of Art) Kitaj has come to identify most strongly with the central European Jewish writer Franz Kafka, and with his sense of estrangement and of hidden mysteries. Illustrations to Kafka's aphorisms, imaginary portraits of his fiancée Felice and Count West-West who owned The Castle, appear in the Little Pictures, as do rapidly sketched portraits of Karl Kraus, Paul Celan, Leon Trotsky and Ludwig Wittgenstein, representations of Judeo-Christian mysteries of the hidden face of God. Kitaj settled in England, and through the 1960s taught at the Ealing Art College, the Camberwell School of Art and the Slade School of Art. He also taught at the University of California, Berkeley in 1968. He staged his first solo exhibition at Marlborough New London Gallery in London in 1963, entitled "Pictures with commentary, Pictures without commentary", in which text included in the pictures and the accompanying catalogue referred to a range of literature and history, citing Aby Warburg's analysis of symbolic forms as a major influence. He curated an exhibition for the Arts Council at the Hayward Gallery in 1976, entitled "The Human Clay" (an allusion to a line by W. H. Auden), including works by 48 London artists, such as William Roberts, Richard Carline, Colin Self and Maggi Hambling, championing the cause of figurative art at a time when abstract was dominant. In an essay in the controversial catalogue, he invented the phrase the School of London to describe painters such as Frank Auerbach, Leon Kossoff, Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Euan Uglow, Michael...Category

- La femme fatale (à moi)By ErróLocated in Malmo, SEPublisher GKM. Edition of 200 ex. Unframed. Signed, dated and numbered. Free shipment worldwide. “I paint because painting is a private Utopia,” Erró writes of his art. The landscapes in Erró’s work are a constantly changing kaleidoscope of images, multivalent and mysterious, not infrequently controversial, bursting with life – and titillating, too! There is room in his pictures for both paradise and visions of fear. Erró is the alias of Gudmundur Gudmundsson, born on 19 July 1932 in Olafsvik, in north-western Iceland. Since Gudmundur first became enthralled by pictures of works of art in a catalogue from the Museum of Modern Art in New York at the tender age of ten, painting has been his passion and his mission in life. He was accepted into art school in Reykjavik as a 19-year old, subsequently complementing what he had learned there with further studies in Oslo. Erró travelled extensively in Spain, Italy, France and Germany in the 1950s, studying at the Florence Academy of Art in 1954 and at the School of Byzantine Mosaic Art in Ravenna in 1955. It was around this time that he began to exhibit his works, first and foremost in Paris, where he chose to make his home in 1958. During the 1960s he established contact with the Swedish museum director Pontus Hultén, who encouraged him and took him under his wing. Over the years Erró has taken part in hundreds of exhibitions and today his works are on show in museums all over the world, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Erró’s pictorial world is peopled by comic-strip characters and autocratic despots alike. Donald Duck with his Daisy, Chip & Dale, and other Walt Disney creations are unselfconsciously juxtaposed with Greek gods and madonnas. Elsewhere the German dictator Adolf Hitler stands shoulder to shoulder with his Iraqi counterpart Saddam Hussein...Category
