Pamela Bachman
'Wisconsin State Fair 1891' Framed Poster, Signed

1983

About the Item

Born in Milwaukee, WI in 1959, Pamela Bachman is a contemporary Wisconsin artist creating folk art acrylic and oil paintings, as well as silkscreen folk art prints. This poster, produced to celebrate the 1983 Wisconsin State Fair, is an excellent example of the kind of imagery she is best known for. In the image, we can see all the attractions of the fair - horses, Dairy Building, cream puffs, bakery, tunnel of love, flower show, etc. - each presented and labeled, creating a playful and imaginative map of the fairgrounds. The naive stylization Bachman uses is reminiscent of earlier American folk painters like Grandma Moses and even Howard Finster. This example is particularly exciting because it is one of a small number of these posters that she signed, elevating the status of the image. 24.13 x 35.88 inches, artwork 27.5 x 36.13 inches, frame Signed in ink, lower right Inscribed "David, thanks for all your help (everything!)" in ink, lower right Dated 10/28/1983 in ink, lower center Pamela was chosen as "The 1984 Featured Artist" for the Channel 10/36 Collection. Pamela's works are in various private collections all over the United States. She has been called, "the most outstanding contemporary folk art painter in America". In addition, she has designed a special limited edition silkscreen of Door County that is available exclusively through the David Barnett Gallery.
