Original La Memphis Belle; original vintage lithograph movie poster, French version; size 23" x 31", 1949; archival linen backed and ready to frame. Fine condition. No paper loss and no damage.
Extraordinary original French version La Memphis Belle movie poster. The movie was a documentary about the 25th and last bombing mission of a B17, the "Memphis Belle". The "Memphis Belle" took part in a great bombing raid on sub-pens in Wilhelmshafen, Germany. Memphis Belle is the nickname of a Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress during the Second World War that inspired the making of the motion picture: a 1944 documentary film, Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress. The aircraft was one of the first B-17 United States Army Air Forces heavy bombers to complete 25 combat missions with her crew intact.
Of the 12,750 B-17s produced, Memphis Belle is famous for being the first Eighth Air Force bomber to complete 25 combat missions over occupied Europe without a crewman being killed and returning to the United States.
The plane is currently preserved at the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio. More information about the aircraft can be viewed at Wikipedia by searching Memphis Belle
