About the Item
"Autumn Equinox I" is collaborative work created by Deirdre Murphy (painter) & Agathe Bouton (printmaker). It is a mixed media original monotype print with acrylic, which involves both the printmaking process as well as painting. It is signed on the back.
This work is a response to making art in quarantine. It was born out of the USPS Art Project, a mail art artist collaboration project created by Christina Massey in April 2020 as a way for artists to feel connected while practicing social distancing and supporting the USPS by sending and receiving packages. Autumnal Equinox signifies the shift in growing season, a time of abundance and warmth. Migratory birds feast on the seeds before their fall epic journey to rest.
Deirdre Murphy earned her MFA degree from the University of Pennsylvania and her BFA degree from the Kansas City Art Institute. Murphy is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Lehigh University and taught at the University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. Murphy has been a visiting artist at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Pennsylvania College of Design and University of Texas, Philadelphia University, Kent State University & Dickinson College. Deirdre Murphy is represented by the Gross McCleaf Gallery (Philadelphia), Boxheart Gallery (Pittsburgh) and Zinc Contemporary Gallery (Seattle).
Agathe Bouton is a French artist living and working in the Philadelphia area whose boundary-pushing printmaking and paper works exhibit influence from living and working in international cities across the globe. Bouton earned her BFA in Painting and Printmaking and her MFA in Arts and Textile Design from the prestigious ESSAA Duperré in Paris, France. Since leaving Paris 15 years ago, Bouton has lived and exhibited her work internationally in Paris (France), London (UK), Philadelphia (USA), Rangoon (Burma/Myanmar), Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Dakar (Senegal) and Istanbul (Turkey). Our cyanotypes are made by coating high-quality Italian watercolor paper with a light-sensitive emulsion. We then expose it in direct sunlight for several minutes using a photo negative...Category
