The print is hand inked in a free way to help convey movement and atmosphere. This is a variable limited edition of 100, each work is unique. Charlie Davies, painter, is available for sale online and in our art gallery at Wychwood Art. I am a painter, printmaker, designer and jeweller. I grew up in Oxford and originally trained as a textile designer. Now I live in Didcot with my husband and two children and divide my time between painting, printmaking and silver-smithing. My textile designs have been exhibited and sold at trade fairs in Frankfurt and New York and to major retailers in the UK. I have regularly exhibited my paintings and etchings in local exhibitions, at Oxford’s Natural History Museum, Oxford Town Hall, the O3 gallery, and I have a selection of work available online. I love painting seascapes, still-lifes and flowers. In 2010 I won The People’s Choice Award for my painting of the Didcot Towers called I’ll miss us when we’re gone! Following that success I began to paint local landscapes. Wittenham Clumps has proved to be a real favourite. In 2016 I decided to do an introductory etching course at the Oxford Printmakers, to help develop my printmaking skills. I absolutely loved it and joined OPC soon after. It is such a pleasure to be involved with this amazing group of creative people. 2018 was a big year for me. I exhibited with Oxford Printmakers at their 40th anniversary exhibition and at three Oxfordshire Artweeks exhibitions. I won my second People’s Choice Award at the Chester Arts Fair, my work was also accepted at the Chelsea Art Society open exhibition and some of my work was published in The Oxford Art Book. Since then I have exhibited twice at the Affordable Art Fair, and been accepted to a number of open exhibitions at The Mall Galleries in London with the Royal Society of Marine Artists and Society of Botanical Artists. I am delighted to be associated with Wychwood Gallery and can’t wait to show my work with them. Winter Winds - 35cm x 35cm Agapanthus - 29.5cm x 29.5cm Delicate Cowparsley - 29.5cm x 29.5cm

Izzy, a charming characterful terrier stands alert, holding her ball in her mouth. Colour etching hand made and printed by the artist. Helen Fay's art for sale online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. Animals have always been at the heart of my work. I find the form, movement and behaviour of the creatures I draw a source of limitless fascination. I love the idea of them watching me, watching them as I draw. I hope my appreciation of the sentience and character of the animals I draw comes across in my work. Over my career I have drawn everything from primates to penguins, dogs, ostriches and even an echidna. These days dogs are my main focus, mostly because I adore dogs but also because they are such an integral part of life. I am delighted by the theory that humans and dogs co evolved, we wouldn’t be what we are without them and vice versa. I try to pare my images down to a balanced simplicity that directs attention to the subject of the picture. I try to balance the subject and the space it occupies, giving each equal importance. Light is hugely important to my work, I imagine my subject in three dimensions as I draw and the light describes the musculature and texture that gives the drawing it’s presence and grounds it in the picture. I aim to capture a pause, a moment where whatever I draw looks like it could wander off or leap up any minute. My influences include Japanese prints, Chinese and Japanese brush drawing and the European artists who were influenced by Japan. I am really excited by composition, by artists like Bonnard and Leon Spilliaert. I have long been a fan of Munch for his direct mark-making, colour and intensity and at the other end of the spectrum, Hammershoi for his limited palette, sense of space and calm. I am interested in black and white photography and film and have recently discovered and been amazed by the films of Yasujiro Ozu...

A gentoo penguin, standing wings out, her attention just grabbed by something. The light is just catching her soft chest feathers. The etching captures the tactile softness of the feathers.
