Bella Feldman
Snoopy -from the Wartoys Series

2002

About the Item

This small steel and glass sculpture is from Bella Feldman's "War Toys" series, which began in the aftermath of the Persian Gulf War and has continued into her current work. Some works in the series look dangerous, while others appear laughably ineffectual. Here, the pointed steel and glass ends can be rolled back and forth on working steel wheels, but cannot be adjusted in angle or direction. This limited and repetitive movement, along with the diminutive size of the sculpture, bring a bit of humor and playfulness to what could be a menacing form. The sculpture is signed with a "B" on the face of one wheel. Feldman has participated in over fifty solo exhibitions in all parts of the US and in Switzerland. Her work has been published in numerous catalogs, and articles and reviews have appeared throughout the art press. She taught sculpture at a major California art school for several decades, chaired the sculpture department there for two years, and has been invited to lecture at universities across the country and in Uganda. Her sculpture is in museum, corporate and private collections worldwide.

  • Probability Deep Blue 4 - elegant, curved, abstract, glass, wall sculpture
    By John Paul Robinson
    Located in Bloomfield, ON
John Paul Robinson creates original contemporary wall sculptures from coloured glass that are filled with light. This piece features elegant arched deep blue tubes of glass that are polished to a smooth finish and overlap one another to create a dynamic composition. The Canadian artist often explores themes related to how the world works. This is one of a series intended to represent the dual nature of light as both a particle and a wave. In physics, the wave nature of light is referred to as a "probability wave". “The thickness of the glass and curvature of the lens conspire to create their own optical effect. As your gaze moves across the piece it causes the small grains of coloured glass to shift just a bit. Starry Starry Night...
