Clement Meadmore
"Upsurge" bronze maquette pedestal sculpture

1989

About the Item

"Upsurge" is a minimalist, abstract pedestal sculpture in fabricated bronze. It was conceived in 1989 and can be considered a Mid-Century Modern artwork. It is finished with Clement Meadmore's "honey waxy" patina. The sculpture balances on its own, but can be secured via a hidden keyhole underneath the sculpture. It looks stunning on a table, desk, shelf, or display pedestal or base (not included) if desired. The title, date, edition number, and foundry stamp are inscribed underneath next to the keyhole. This is number 2 in an edition of 8 (plus 2 Artist's Proofs) at this "Maquette" size. There is also a larger "Indoor" version available in our current inventory, and a much larger "Garden" version available by commission in black painted aluminum. Please contact us for more information. Clement Meadmore was born in Melbourne and originally studied aeronautical engineering at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia. After graduating in 1949, he designed furniture until 1953 when his first sculpture of welded steel was offered for sale. While a young artist, his work was highly regarded and he was awarded a number of exhibitions, including several one-person shows in Melbourne and Sydney, where he had lived since 1960. Meadmore moved to New York in 1963 at the age of 34, and later became a United States citizen. With the exception of a year spent in Australia as photo editor for Vogue magazine, Meadmore lived and worked in New York for the remainder of his career. Meadmore passed away in April, 2005, leaving an important legacy of elegant, gravity-defying sculpture in many prestigious venues in the US, Japan, and Mexico. The Meadmore Estate continues to have the open editions of his works in all size ranges fabricated in the same way as he did while he was alive. Please inquire about possibilities.

  • Bronze Sculpture EXCLOS
    By Guillaume Roche
    Located in Pasadena, CA
Guillaume ROCHE The artist translates movement and energy through the dynamism of assemblages and seeks the balance of composition. His sculptures offer aerial movements, round shapes with powerful lines, delicate and sensual cuts. The contextualization of his works, inscribing the approach of Guillaume Roche in the field of architecture: work of structure, lines, matter and skin, study of a volume and its proportions according to context and environment. His work is conceived to be connected with the territory. The EXCLOS series is born from the encounter of the concepts of EXPLOSION and ECLOSION. The artist conceives these imposing spheres of steel as a powerful breath contained by a gentle force that channels and envelops this primary energy. Working with stainless steel, Guillaume seeks contrast through concepts such as full-void, light-weight, balance-fall. In contrast, he finds total freedom of creation...
