" The Face " Jennifer Baker - David Marshall Cast Glass and Sand Cast Aluminium

2021

About the Item

" The Face " This unique sculpture was created by David Marshall and Jennifer Baker from sand cast aluminium and cast glass. Mounted on steel base. Certified authentic by both artists. The collaborative work of Jennifer Baker, glass artist, and David Marshall, metal sculptor, represents the natural joining of the artists and their respective mediums. The respect for each other’s art evolved into the works that reflect the shared expression of how the forms of nature - the rocks and mountains, the ice and water, the expanse and randomness - inspires them and forged their artistic bond. The complex relationship of the human experience and impact on the natural world wove itself into the basis for these works that explore the relationship of the spires and granite faces of mountains that rose from the basement of time worn by the handprints and boot marks of women and men, driven by reasons unexplained in a race to the top. Climbers, fragile glass figures holding tight to metal-hard rock, are balanced in space, a tactile experience that demonstrates respect but also leaves a mark, an ambivalent expression of a deep emotion that will injure either if one gives way. From the top, it’s not clear who the winner is.

  • Probability Deep Blue 4 - elegant, curved, abstract, glass, wall sculpture
    By John Paul Robinson
    Located in Bloomfield, ON
John Paul Robinson creates original contemporary wall sculptures from coloured glass that are filled with light. This piece features elegant arched deep blue tubes of glass that are polished to a smooth finish and overlap one another to create a dynamic composition. The Canadian artist often explores themes related to how the world works. This is one of a series intended to represent the dual nature of light as both a particle and a wave. In physics, the wave nature of light is referred to as a "probability wave". “The thickness of the glass and curvature of the lens conspire to create their own optical effect. As your gaze moves across the piece it causes the small grains of coloured glass to shift just a bit. Starry Starry Night...
