About the Item
"Grace" is a boxwood sculpture by Lutfi Romhein. It consists of two parts, a fiminine silhouette as the vertical part, and a horizontal part. These two parts are connected through a copper ring. This fiminine silhouette with a fine face seems to stretch, to dart in a supple and sensual movement. The horizontal part, which could be a wave, a breath of wind etc., comes to complete, to contrast this long silhouette, to stabilize the flight, and to counterbalance this verticality, all gently.
The touch of this sculpture in boxwood being particularly soft and smooth, like ivory, together with its soft, delicate and elegant lines engraved in the boxwood, convey softness, sensuality and deepness.
Boxwood is a rare wood, once carved, its touch resembles that of the ivory, because this wood is very dense. "Grace" is entirely handmade and requires very precise gestures, as well as a long sanding processus. For the artist, his boxwood works have a special value, other than other wooden works.
A graduate from the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrare, in Italy, Lutfi Romhein is a sculptor of Syrian origin, living in France since the mid-2000s. Lutfi Romhein likes to explore a diversity of styles, but also of materials : marble, fine woods, stainless steel, slate, plexiglas… He is particularly renowned in Syria, the Middle East and in Italy.
