Sarah Alexander
"Break Free", contemporary, steel, blue patina, wall sculpture

2019

About the Item

Sarah Alexander's steel sculpture "Break Free" is a 42 x 27 x 10 inch wall sculpture that is made to hang on the wall and cast dramatic shadows that become part of the piece. This dynamic sculpture seems to be busting out of its frame and attempting to leap off of the wall. Sinewy shapes move, dance, and wrap around one another as if it were a living thing. Alexander has engraved drawings onto the steel as well as given areas a blue patina making similar marks as she would when making a 2-D drawing. This sculpture is coated with a clear coating preserving the raw elements of unpainted steel. It is part of a series of "Steel Drawings she made for her exhibit Anywhere, Anywhere, I Don't Know. The signature is engraved on the piece. Sarah Alexander is a contemporary mixed media artist with an emphasis on watercolor and drawing using unconventional surfaces and techniques. Her work is in private collections and has been shown extensively throughout New England, and abroad. Her work has been published by North Light Books. Alexander is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
