About the Item

Buffalo Cow by Charles Rumsey, a bronze sculpture that dates C.1910 and may be part of the preparation for the Manhattan Brie Frieze executed in 1916. The artist was an avid horseman and outdoorsmen and animal anatomy was something he understood extremely well. This sculpture, measuring 9.5x16.5x 4.5" a heavy bronze with a beautiful patina. It is included in the catalogs for Charles Rumsey from the Burchfield Center, pg. 41, cat. illustration no.14. The image below in the catalog shows a maquette for "The Smithtown Bull" an monumental sculpture on LI NY. Lynda Anderson Galleries has a large selection of his works and has represented his estate since 1992.
