Fine Art, Charles Henry Scwanfelder (1774-1837). Signed C H Schwanfelder Pinx and dated 1825. An exceptional portrait of a horse standing proud in woodland, in front of a tree-lined vista incorporating cows residing by a stream. Charles born in England, the son of a German decorative painter started his career helping his father painting clock faces and snuff boxes and became renowned in his own right for his animal paintings, later being appointed by George III and George IV. Exhibiting at the Royal Academy between 1809 and 1814. English original oil painting on canvas "Retrieving the Grog Before the Storm"; signed lower left: Thomas LUNY; and indistinctly dated--only a "2" is discernable. This dramatic painting depicts ships outward bound while smugglers in the foreground heave their small boat to shore while others roll a barrel of grog to safety. The sea is building while the white cliffs and stone fortress at the entrance to a harbor stand firm against the impending storm. This is quintessential Luny, displaying his deft handling of the ocean and the exposition of coastal life in the early 19th century. We have had this painting cleaned, rebacked and restored by Northeast Painting Conservation, York, Maine. Thomas Luny (1759-1837), was born in Cornwall but moved to London at an early age and was raised there by his parents, Thomas and Elizabeth. Thomas' father is thought to have been employed in some activity at the London Docks and from thence the younger Thomas was exposed to the maritime world from an early age. He is thought to have been apprenticed to the London artist Francis Holman...

A fabulous Mid-Century abstract oil painting titled Horse Races by Pierre Bosco. Displayed in a dark wood frame with gold inset and ready to hang. Excellent Condition, Original Condition Unaltered, No Imperfections. A descendant of the famous Della Rovere family, Pierre was born on January 29, 1909 in Visco, the province of Udine in Italy where he grows up with his seven siblings. At twenty-two he decides to leave his native Italy and move to Saint-Germain-en-Laye where he attends diligently the schools and painting workshops of the capital. In 1940 he befriends the painter André Marchand and manages to make a living by selling occasionally and with the help from his family. However, he has his first solo exhibition in Paris in 1943 at the Galerie Roussel, boulevard Saint-Germain, but continues to pursue his work austerely in the silence of his studio. When his father dies in 1945, the painter returns to Italy to be with his family for some time after fifteen years of absence. After this homecoming, he returns to Paris in 1946, painting and making a living as an art restoration. When he first discovers paintings of Cézanne, Pissarro, Gauguin and Rouault, he is convinced that his future is in Paris, where the “bohemian" lifestyle attracts painters and sculptors from around the world. In 1957, Bosco is well known to the affluent elite of the French capital. He appears in numerous laudatory articles written by famous poets like Pierre Seghers, Jean Cocteau and Marcel Sauvage - who will dedicate a poem to him – including the French poet and novelist Henri Bosco, and the journalist and writer Louis Nucéra. Bosco’s works of art stands among those of the biggest names in contemporary painting: Chagall, Braque, Picasso, Matisse, etc. This collaboration opens new doors...
