Michael Andersen & Sons Art Deco Persia Glaze Stoneware Charger Diana With Deer
By Michael Andersen & Son
Located in Cincinnati, OH
This unusual Art Deco era Scandinavian stoneware charger bowl was made by Michael Andersen & Sons of Bornholm, Denmark. The charger features a large bas relief image depicting Diana the Huntress as she runs alongside a pair of leaping deer. Diana holds a bow in her left hand and has a strap holding a quiver laying across her chest.
The charger is finished in MAS iconic Persia Glaze, introduced in 1935. Persia Glaze has a distinctive appearance with extensive craquelure along with mosaic mottling which serves to impart items with an aged appearance. The bodies of Diana and the leaping deer bear a blue/green color reminiscent of verdigris found on ancient statuary...
