1930s Dickins and Jones Floral Silk Velvet Coat

About the Item

1930s panne silk velvet floral jacket which retailed at the upmarket department store Dickins and Jones in London's Regent Street. It has a striking repeat floral print in cream, purple, cerise pink and green against a black background. The buttons are unusual and a 3-dimensional machined metal marvel; they remind me of a mini Wurlitzer platform! We particularly love the double corded rope belt that passes around the back of the jacket and then loops over the waistline button. The shoulder seams have a series of small gathers in two neat rows to create a low profile puffed sleeve and provide additional shaping. It is fully lined in a cream satin and the condition is truly excellent for something of its age. Not immediately visible unless inspecting very closely; the velvet is speckled with some light coloured age related markings. They blend in so well with the print to the point that's it virtually impossible to notice that they aren't part of the print itself. It is possible to treat these markings if desired but we've genuinely left alone as they don't detract. Will fit up to a UK 10-12 or US 6-8 and sizes smaller. MEASUREMENTS Bust - 38 in. (96.5 cm) Waist - 32 in. (81.3 cm) Hip - 44 in. (111.8 cm) Length - 36 in. (91.4 cm) Shoulders - 17 in. (43.2 cm)

  • 1970s Ted Lapidus Green Linen Coat Dress
    By Ted Lapidus
    Located in London, GB
This is a great example of early unisex fashion from the revered French designer Ted Lapidus. He popularised sports utility wear and the safari suit look along with Yves Saint Laurent in the 60s and 70s. This dress is made from a richly woven linen fabric and has several notable design details including a wide lapel collar and double breasted rows of buttons with two very large front pockets. The concealed access for these pockets is in fact on the sides of the dress. The jacket has beautiful tailoring and is fully lined in a olive coloured acetate. The coat dress is in excellent vintage condition with only very minor signs of wear. There is a model number hidden within the left hand pocket. There are belt loops however the original belt is missing. We have styled it here with an original Gucci logo...
