1960s Berkertex Emerald Green Dress with Soutache Work

About the Item

This 1960s original Berkertex dress is in a striking shade of emerald green and has an unusual decorative trompe-l'œil bodice that looks like a bolero jacket is being worn. This is in fact a patterned series of scrolling soutache work. The fabric is a quality manmade rayon, wool, silk blend with a slight sheen and it holds it shape well. It has short capelet sleeves and a flared knee length skirt fastening to the rear with the original zip. It is finished with 5 cover buttons down the front purely for decorative purposes. There is a spare button sewn into the hemline of the skirt which is fully lined in a quality acetate. In fantastic vintage condition with no issues of any note. Labelled a vintage size 12 which is smaller than today's sizing; we recommend this suitable for size UK size 8 or US 4. MEASUREMENTS Bust - 34 in. (86.4 cm) Waist - 28 in. (71.1 cm) Hip - 33 in. (83.8 cm) Length - 39.5 in. (100.3 cm) Shoulders - 16 in. (40.6 cm)

    By Ted Lapidus
    Located in London, GB
This is a great example of early unisex fashion from the revered French designer Ted Lapidus. He popularised sports utility wear and the safari suit look along with Yves Saint Laurent in the 60s and 70s. This dress is made from a richly woven linen fabric and has several notable design details including a wide lapel collar and double breasted rows of buttons with two very large front pockets. The concealed access for these pockets is in fact on the sides of the dress. The jacket has beautiful tailoring and is fully lined in a olive coloured acetate. The coat dress is in excellent vintage condition with only very minor signs of wear. There is a model number hidden within the left hand pocket. There are belt loops however the original belt is missing. We have styled it here with an original Gucci logo...
