A brown silk faille day dress with pagoda sleeves - France Circa 1880

About the Item

Circa 1880 France A brown silk faille day dress, skirt and bodice dating from the early French Troisième République. Whalebone bodice, staple front choker and large pagoda sleeves. The bodice is complete with ten buttons (buttons are slightly missing) and black piping with jet pearls is applied around the bodice and at the ends of the pagodas. Coordinating skirt fitted with organ pleats behind for a turn-up cage. Waist belt in ecru cotton bearing the label Anne Lavallette, Robes et Confections in Cournon. Interesting Second Empire model circa 1865, updated twenty years later by a dressmaker according to changing silhouette criteria. Lined with brushed cotton, chintz and silk for the bodice. No lining for the skirt with a black tarlatane yoke at the bottom (tarlatane tears) to accentuate the ruffle. No holes or stains. good colour and condition for the period. Dimensions: Equivalent to size 36 in France. Bodice: shoulders 43 cm, waist 67 cm, bust 87 cm, sleeves 46 cm, height 44 cm. Skirt: waist 65 cm, height 105 cm, circumference of bottom of skirt 334 cm.
