Emanuel Ungaro printed crepe and linen hostess maxi dress. circa 1970

About the Item

The French designer was celebrated for the colourful and elegant designs he imagined particularly during the 1960s and 1970s. Ungaro dared to mix clashing colours that created a strong visual impact. Yet the craft elements of his designs in the form of prints and silhouettes were never overwhelming. His flamboyant use of pattern to design comfortable and flattering clothes that sensually encased the female body made Ungaro a favourite with high profile celebrities including Jacqueline Kennedy and Catherine Deneuve. This maxi dress is constructed from a crepe material for the bodice and linen for the skirt. Printed with alternating blue, red and green flower and zigzag motifs. It exemplifies the sensual world that Emanuel Ungaro created with fabrics, colour effects and prints. Featuring a round neckline and short sleeves. The dress is decorated with a single row of blue lucite buttons from the neck down the entire front. Stylist notes Startling simplicity, well made construction and elegance, describe this highly collectable Ungaro piece. Worn with sandals and colourful jewellery for a classic and beautiful modern look.
