Valentino couture Swiss dot tulle and silk-wool jersey cocktail dress. c. 1970s

About the Item

Sensuality, delicacy, glamour and grandeur are four words often used to summarise Valentino’s approach to dress design. A superstar designer who designed Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’s wedding dress. The designer’s creative impeccability have helped him to produce splendid, desirable and above all beautiful and exquisite couture garments of unequal quality. This stunning cocktail dress embodies Valentino’s reputation as the artist of female beauty. Although the garment might look like a whisper because of its crisp and neat cut. It is in fact a very carefully thought out and constructed design. Constructed with a wool-silk Jersey blend material. The dress features a slight V-neckline. The décolleté is decorated with intricate hand embroidered details made with Swiss dot tulle and frogging in the shapes of bows. The sleeves are also made of the same tulle, are mid length and puffy with pivot edges. The dress structure is balanced with lead weights at the hem which are also adorned with slits on both sides. Fastening with a long zip at the back from the neckline to the hip.
