Vintage 1950's Irene Lentz Couture Teal Green Draped Silk Grecian Goddess Gown

About the Item

An incredibly ethereal and ultra rare Irene Lentz custom couture vibrant teal green silk chiffon goddess gown dating back to her 1958 collection. Irene Lentz stunned the world in the 1930's, 40's and 50's with her ingeniously constructed, sophisticated, couture-standard garments. After charming Los Angeles society and celestial celebrities with her jaw-dropping custom work at Bullock’s Wilshire, the designer was plucked to helm the illustrious glamour factory of stunning costumes at MGM Studios. The two time Academy Award nominated Irene is best known for her work with Silver Screen Legends Marlene Dietrich, Ingrid Bergman, Lana Turner, Ginger Rogers, and Doris Day. Desiring to offer her designs to women off the screen, she founded the manufacturing company Irene, Inc. with investment support from twenty-five of the nation’s leading department stores. This glamourous green Grecian-inspired draped dress is a beautiful example of her genius. The bodice has an alluring asymmetric draped design with duel spaghetti straps. I especially love the hourglass nipped waist and front ribbon weave style draping. So incredibly figure flattering! The stylized charm of the flared long peplum overskirt personifies 'Old Hollywood' luxury. These early American couturier pieces are rare, as they were not mass produced and were incredibly expensive to make. This stunning piece of fashion history would make an unforgettable wedding guest or red carpet look. Measurements Bust: 33-34 inches Waist: 26 inches Hips: up to 38 inches Total Length: 57 inches This iconic 1958 Irene Lentz designer gown is in beautiful wearable condition. The inside is hand-finished and the workmanship is of couture standards. Signs of wear include some light underarm stains, fray to the thin straps and a small patch repair by the bottom hemline which are not noticeable when worn. Please message for detailed pictures. An investment piece that will continue to increase in value from the Ohio State Historical Costumes & Textiles Museum collection.

  • Archival 1994 Vivienne Westwood Pinstripe Wool Jacket and High-Low Trained Skirt
    By Vivienne Westwood
    Located in Beverly Hills, CA
An important, well-documented and highly coveted Vivienne Westwood black pinstripe light weight wool two-piece ensemble dating back to her iconic 1994 'Café Society' spring-summer collection. As shown Susie Cave walked the runway in this sensational skirt! Vivienne Westwood is one of the most influential and recognizable British designers of the past 40 years. She began designing clothes in 1971 with the opening of her first shop, Let It Rock, at 430 King's Road. In 1976, her then lover and business partner, Malcolm McLaren, guaranteed her status among the stars when he dressed the Sex Pistols, the British band he managed, in clothes from the boutique. She was named British Designer of the Year, both in 1990 and 1991. The following December, she was awarded an OBE in recognition of her services to British fashion and in 1998 she won the Queen's Export Award. This ultra chic ensemble from Vivienne Westwood’s sensational 1994 Café Society spring-summer collection is a clever play on traditional male suiting and a perfect example of her genius. Café Society is a retelling of how European history has shaped women's fashion. The central question of this show asked what does a woman free from restriction look like? Although this show is filled with historical fashion references, Westwood subverts them by placing it on a new canvas, a liberated woman. Made from a luxurious light-weight wool, the pinstripe reads masculine yet the cut has an ultra feminine allure. The blazer features a flattering curved petal cut waist and lean, long sleeves. The gold buttons are etched with the iconic Vivienne Westwood logo orb. The matching high-low trained skirt is a statement piece in it's own right. It could be styled with many other pieces like a corset or crop top for a totally different vibe. It is constructed to nip at the waist and cascade down in an incredible high-low waterfall trained hemline. I love how it almost resembles a deflated Victorian bustle...
