1990's Jacqueline de Ribes Couture Metallic Blue Silk Asymmetric Bias-Cut Dress

About the Item

A truly breathtaking and rare early 1990's metallic pale gold and blue lurex silk asymmetric bias-cut gown from the talented Countess Jacqueline de Ribes. A muse to Haute Couture designers, de Ribes had at her disposal their drapers, cutters, and fitters in acknowledgment of their esteem for her taste and originality. Ultimately, she used this experience to create her own successful design business, which she directed until 1995. The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute even hosted an exhibition focusing on her internationally renowned style, whose originality and elegance established her as one of the most celebrated fashion personas of the twentieth century. This gorgeous Jacqueline de Ribes gown is the perfect example of her genius and still has an unworn $3840 price tag from Saks Fifth Avenue attached. With inflation, that would equal to almost $9000 today! At Saks FIfth Avenue, her impressive collections were showcased right next to Christian Dior and John Galliano. The garment is fashioned in luxurious metallic gold accented deco motif sapphire-blue lurex silk. There is a sensational asymmetric draped one-sleeve construction which reads so modern. I love the ruched bias-cut design which draws attention to the waist while skimming the hips effortlessly. The side skirt draping swag finishes this look with such a glamorous vibe. Definitely feels like the type of gown Countess Jacqueline would have worn herself. Measurements Bust: 31-34 inches Waist: 23-26 inches Hips: up to 36 inches Total Length: 57 inches This Jacqueline de Ribes designer dress is in beautiful condition with no rips, stains or discoloration. Fully lined in silk with perfectly working side-back zipper. This garment is over 30 years old and has never been worn. Original price tag still attached. Highly wearable and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value.

    By Lanvin Paris

This extremely gorgeous Lanvin Couture sheer silk chiffon dress from their 1978 fall-winter collection is a statement piece. I love the beautiful bohemian chic vibe mixed with an elegant refinement. The striped velvet trim adds the perfect amount of color to the garment. The bodice has a stunning ruffle collar with dramatic billow-sleeves. Shaped with an elastic band, the figure flattering cut adds a sophisticated blousy nature while still showcasing your waistline. Under the direction of Jules Francois-Crahay, Lanvin was a playground for imagination. This vibrant primary hues is the perfect example of this. Lanvin may be the oldest fashion house in Paris, but it has also managed to remain one of the most relevant. Through many years and many designers, it has stayed true to the vision of its founder, Madame Jeanne...

  • Vintage 1970 Mainbocher Couture Vogue Documented Hot Pink Flocked Silk Dress
    By Mainbocher
    Located in Beverly Hills, CA
Gorgeous Mainbocher couture shocking pink abstract floral dress dating back to his 1970 collection. As shown, this design was modeled by Loulou de la Falaise for Vogue magazine. Mainbocher was a well-respected couturier who operated fashion houses in Paris and later New York from the 1930's through the 1970's. Mainbocher's arrival in New York coincided perfectly with the city élite's love for French couture, for though he epitomized it, he satisfied their patriotism because he was actually an American. The integrity of luxurious fabrics, intricate cut, quality workmanship were cherished by Mainbocher's upper crust customers. This mid 1960's dress is a perfect example of his genius. The fabric is a lush mid-weight velvet flocked silk satin. The 3/4-length sleeve buttons down bodice really compliments the classic nipped-waist silhouette. The dress can even be worn as a dramatic jacket if you choose to leave it unbuttoned. You get the effect of elegance and edgy at the same time. I love the sculpted mermaid skirting which really moves beautifully when worn. As Mainbocher once said "I have never known a really chic...
