Vintage 1970's Granny Takes a Trip Documented Merlot Red Velvet Blazer Jacket

About the Item

An incredibly rare and ultra chic Granny Takes a Trip merlot red velvet jacket from the closet of legendary Scottish rock singer-songwriter Frankie Miller. Granny Takes a Trip was an upscale shop operating from 1966 to 1979, and has been called the "first psychedelic boutique in groovy London". The store achieved worldwide renown, including a feature in Time magazine, and paved the way for many designer boutiques that followed such as Mr. Freedom, Vivienne Westwood and Paul Smith. This luxurious merlot red velvet blazer was Frankie Miller's choice pick for his 1978 "Darlin'" music video. Even without the provenance, it's such an expectational blazer. I adore the lean, long sleeves tailored silhouette and mid length; which looks fantastic open or closed. A truly stunning garment with rich history. Measurements Chest: 36-37 inches Waist: 30 inches Sleeve Length: 24 inches Total Length: 35 inches Shoulder to Shoulder: 16 inches This 1970's Granny Takes a Trip merlot red velvet jacket is in wonderful condition with no rips, stains or holes. Presents beautifully. Fully lined and closes with original buttons. The garment comes with a detailed COA from Frankie Miller's past girlfriend. Highly wearable and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value.

  • Vintage 1969 Thea Porter Couture Rare 'Samawa' Embroidered Wool Documented Coat
By Thea Porter, Thea Porter Couture
    Located in Beverly Hills, CA
An ultra rare and highly coveted Thea Porter Couture ‘Samawa’ colorful woven wool coat dating back to her fall-winter 1969 collection. An example of this gorgeous garment can be found in the book 'Thea Porter: Bohemian Chic' by Laura McLaws Helms and Venetia Porter on page 60. This is a such a unique and truly iconic piece within her body of work. I adore the vibrant abstract natural yarn pattern work, which was inspired by Iraqi 'Samawa' carpets, as well as the side hemline slits that reveal a luxurious black satin lining. The rabbit fur trim is so incredibly soft and the zip-up front closure makes this piece so wearable. An almost identical coat was even featured in British Vogue's Fall 1970 issue, shot by the famous Barry Lategan. During this period, Thea Porter's clothing attracted many celebrity customers who enjoyed wearing her erotic creations whose secret was to conceal rather than reveal. Her clients, some of whom also became her friends, included Lauren Bacall, Bianca Jagger, Mick Jagger, Sharon Tate, Elizabeth Taylor, and Pete Townshend. This magical garment originally sold at Giorgio’s of Beverly Hills which is less than a mile away from our boutique! A truly important museum worthy coat by the queen of the bohemian fashion...

This ultra-chic early 1970's Harella of England maxi coat will make any woman shine during cold months ahead. The fabric itself is gorgeous; vibrant teal blue-green midweight cotton-velvet. I love the matching brass buttons and long, lean cuffed sleeves. Shaped with a-line seams that flare out in a slight swing-skirt, the figure flattering cut adds fullness to the skirt without adding bulk in the hips. Complete with a back mock-belt and hidden pockets. The mark of a truly fashionable garment is that it remains current event 50 years later, as does this statement coat...
