Mid 19th Century Chinese Altar Table Qing Dynasty

About the Item

A large elm-wood altar or console table with everted flanges or 'qiaotou' (commonly called "birds wings"), supported on recessed trestle legs with multiple carved, stylized ruyi in scepter form, a sacred fungus and with lingzhi and dragon carvings on corner spandrels of apron, symbolizing luck, joy, strength, wealth and longevity. The Qing dynasty. (1644–1911) was founded by a northeast Asian people who called themselves Manchus. Their history, language, culture, and identity was distinct from the Chinese population, whom they conquered in 1644 when China was weakened by internal rebellions. Shanxi province, China, mid 19th century. Original surface and patina. Measures: 94" long x 17" deep x 41" high (39" high from floor to serving surface). Please examine all pics prior to purchase.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor structural damages. In as found condition. Few dings, few small replaced pieces of fretwork as see in images. Crack to one return. Pads placed on feet circa 1900 to protect original foot from stone floor damp, as seen in pics.
