This simply designed Doon bench from China's Shanxi province was hand-crafted from a single block of limestone. With a strong, low profile and subtle stepped spandrels, the bench honors the balanced proportions and minimal forms characteristic of Ming-dynasty design.
As much an architectural element as it is a piece of furniture, the bench continues a long Chinese tradition of stone furniture, valued for its rich texture and inherent permanence. The timeless form is as wonderful as a table as it is for seating, indoors or out.
