Scandinavian Tine, or Svepask, Painted Bentwood Oval-Shape Box

About the Item

Scandinavian tine, or svepask, painted bentwood oval-shape box circa late 19th century, probably from the Sogn og Fjordane region. Box is created from thin layers of steam-bent wood laced together with a piece of birch root. Box opens when the two end-posts are gently pulled back. Forged iron handle. Decorated in Viksdale style black, white and blue S-shape rosmaling over a salmon color background. Note: Original/early finish on antique and vintage metal will include some, or all, of the following: patina, scaling, light rust, discoloration, and corrosion. Regional differences in humidity and climate during shipping may cause antique and vintage wood to shrink and/or split along its grain, veneer to loosen and/or peel, and painted finishes and gilt to crack and flake.
