About the Item
This very elaborate jewelry box or vanity dresser makeup chest is unsigned, but presumed to have been made in China in approximately 1850 in the period Chinese Export style. The box is composed of wood with multiple small drawers and compartments and has small brass handles and hammered steel hinges and hardware on the outside of the chest. The top of the box lifts open to reveal a sizable mirror which slides forward and rests in place. The entire outside of the box is heavily inlaid with a floral, possibly cherry blossom motif. Given the construction and style of the box, it may have been made as a travelling case. Please note the dimensions below refer to the box closed, the height with the mirror upright measures approximately nineteen inches in height.
