About the Item
A fine antique Georgian engraved sterling silver tea caddy, by Henry Chawner, London, 1787.
Of fluted oval form with bright-cut floral borders with flower heads and having a hinged locking lid with a carved ivory pineapple finial with a silver pineapple leaf cuff below.
The base is finely engraved with swags and garlands and is punctuated with elongated engraved hexagonal cartouches, the one to the front of the caddy engraved with an arm and a hand holding a coronet. Both the base and lid having marks for Henry Chawner, London, with the date letter M for 1787.

This inkstand is encompassed with an applied thread decorated border, in addition to the contemporary engraved initials 'WW'. The rim of the body of the sterling silver inkstand is ornamented with a paralleling applied reed decorated border. The internal wirework style frame of the stand is divided into three rounded supports. Each internal compartment retains the original rounded glass bottles with cut glass ornamentation in addition to impressive scalloped bases.
