An Egyptian-Revival German Brass Hanukkah Menorah, late 19th century

About the Item

Egyptian-revival Hanukkah Lamp made in Germany in the late 19th century. Expertly cast brass and copper featuring highly detailed motifs such as a Star of David in a vine wreath surmounted on an Egyptian column stem flanked by two upright griffins with protruding tongues. Upper portion is comprised of twisted vine forms fastened numerously by floral designs ascending to form the holders for the rose-shaped copper bobeches containing the circular candle placements with floral garlands hanging between each one. Projecting at the front is a removable servant lamp similarly designed and placed directly above the word "Menorah" written on both sides in Hebrew. Menorah rests on a square-stepped alter base decorated with foliate and perforated line designs. Finished at top center with a smaller column and a ball finial.
