French Portico clock Rosewood n Marquetry early 19th century Gilt n Silverplated
About the Item
Charles X Period continental French rosewood & mahogany marquetry inlaid Portico mantel (shelf, desk) clock. The clock having a pediment top over an inlaid architrave. Central guilloche silver dial with roman numerals to the chapter ring embellished in relief gilt, framed in the shape of intricate pattern, eight-day movement. Gilt bronze pendulum with floristic three-dimensional pattern. Movement and pendulum marked "GH". All flanked by a group of four columns. Raised on a squared base with bun feet below. Antique wooden clocks are always more valued than metal clocks due to their fragility and strong impact on the clock environment (moisture, etc.).
Size app.: 50.3 cm (roughly 19.8 in) high, 28 cm (roughly 11 in) wide, 17 cm (roughly 6.7 in) deep. Very good condition, with minimal age wear, movement is not running (needs care: cleaning, etc.), but striking part is OK. Please study high-res pictures for cosmetic condition!
